BNHS families: Regarding recent social media post

Jan. 13, 2020

Byron Nelson families,

Northwest ISD, as well as many of you, was made aware of social media post about Byron Nelson High School on last night. Although we do not believe the post to be credible, the Byron Nelson HS administration, NISD Safety and Security team, along with Trophy Club and Roanoke Police Departments, are currently investigating the source. As a precaution, additional police officers will be present and visible at Byron Nelson High School throughout the school day.

We place the utmost pride in our commitment to student safety at Byron Nelson High School, as do all schools in our community. Northwest ISD and cooperating agencies will continue to monitor the situation and implement safety procedures if necessary.

Jan. 13, 2020

Good afternoon Byron Community,

Thank you for trusting us with the well-being of your students.  In today’s environment, I understand those concerns and like you, our commitment to school safety is primary.  As you know, our campus was mentioned in a social media post that caused many concerns.  While Byron Nelson was not mentioned in the initial post, it appears as though others added the school’s name and the posting took on added “layers” by others reposting.  The Trophy Club Police Department is currently investigating the initial report.

I can assure you that when we were made aware of the concerns, communication among the District, Trophy Club and Roanoke organizations occurred immediately.  Based upon the expertise of our local law enforcement agencies, the situation was monitored closely, as we rely heavily upon their guidance.

I appreciate the ways in which our parents continue to talk to students about the power of social media accuracy, and the potential misinformation that can occur when misused.  Certainly, social media helps to broadcast important messages, such as this one, and when that occasional message contains topics that are concerning, contacting appropriate personnel is the best method of reporting.

As always, your support is appreciated.

Ron Myers

BNHS New Procedure to Drop Off Items

As a means to monitor access to our building and to enhance our supervision and security measures, it is necessary to limit the window of time for which items may be dropped off at our campus.  Therefore, between 11:00 and 11:45 AM a security person is available to assist individuals with all packages and items that are dropped off at the campus.  Whether it is a project, lunch or other last-minute item that a student needs for the day (cannot accept any form of money), it needs to arrive within that time frame or with the student upon his/her first entrance to school (by 8:40 AM) or after 4:00 PM when the student can meet you.

Additionally, we are legally not able to accept money in any form without depositing and receipting it as payment for fees/fines owed.  District policy prohibits us from "holding on to" any form of money until the student can pick it up.

If your child needs money for lunch, please make a deposit into his/her MySchoolBucks account at MySchoolBucks Account.  Additional information about lunches and charging can be found at NISD Food Service

The front office opens at 8:00 AM and the doors are unlocked for students to enter for tutorial purposes at 7:50 AM.
